Are old point and shoot cameras better than new smartphone cameras?

I have an 8 year old sony cybershot point and shoot camera that I hadn't used in a while, and a Galaxy note 8 smartphone (which came out less than a year ago). I took a few pictures with both and compared...they didn't seem like that much of a difference! But IDK.

I would think the Sony camera would be better.. I was employed by them.. Their products are simply top notch!
@fairone I got one of their phones .....and I have to admit - (even though it has it's limits) , I'm pretty damned impressed with the camera on it....just 'general settings' will take a great range of photos ....

@BoobooSnafu What phone is this?

@MntoNcjust a Sony imperia ....Z5 I think. But I was surprised !
And - although it couldn't take a few on the morning above...coz of the light - I've managed to take portrait shots with it in pretty low light.
@fairone Thanks.....I was so glad the camera managed to pick up exactly what I saw.....these webs were so beautiful ......I only wished the sun had come out....then they would have lit up like little chandeliers !
