I’m not sure about after the war, but I have experienced seeing a UFO. I find it very fascinating, as well.
@amethyst1 That’s interesting! I don’t mind sharing.
It was 1972, around 11 o'clock at night, on old Eiler Rd. My friend, Patty Fae, noticed it first...and then pointed it out to me. I said, "Oh, Patty Fae, that ain't nothin'...just a bright streetlight." lol
We were a little distance away. Then as we got closer, I noticed she was right. That was way too bright for a streetlight. Then we got up on it and I quickly pulled over on the side of the road and we were just flabbergasted. We were actually seeing a UFO up close!! But just as I pulled in, it switched its four extremely bright lights (as bright as those on a football field) to only two dim lights, yet didn't move a hair. But because it was hovering above the streetlight, we could only make out the lights in the dark, not the shape. I was so mad. I so wanted to see the shape.
What it was looking for, we'll never know!! It was weird. It had had the bright lights shining across the street from where it was, in a vacant wheatfield...as if searching for something. Then, like I said, switched real quick as could be, to only two dim lights, as we pulled off the road. I rolled the window down to see if maybe it was a helicopter. Not one noise came from it. Quieter than a mouse. Then all of a sudden, from that single spot, it took off so fast!!...at lightning speed and was gone across town in mere seconds! Just like a streak of light. We never saw anything like it. I'll never forget it. We told our husbands that night, but they just shrugged it off. Didn't even act like they believed it. We just shook our heads. I'm glad I had Patty with me that night. At least we know what we saw. Even if no one else believes us. 😂
If you ever get the chance, watch the documentary "UFO's Over Illinois". It is awesome, and you can order it from the library for free. It shows one man in Highland, Illinois (very close to me at the time) who saw one so up close, it is unbelievable...and it looked like a house it was so big, and they show a simulation of it, as many saw it, called it in, then police and state troopers watched them travel from county to county until it disappeared. It's one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. They even have some of the troopers talking about it in an interview.
