Can someone tell me how to do split screen on windows 8?

I've googled and also look at youtube vids. When I try it, I do end up with a split screen but, I never seem to be able to split what I actually want to be split on my screen. usually word and Internet so I can have my instructions or readings available as I'm taking notes on them. It's annoying having to click on internet, then go to word, then back to Internet, back to word ...

If you have desktop composition activated you just drag one application to the edge of the screen by grabbing it by the title bar and it will show you a hollow border occupying half screen when you drag it far enough. Just release it there. On the other half of the screen all the rest of the programs you have on will appear as thumbnails, the one you click will occupy the other half of the screen. It's a two click move real fast and simple. Also works in W10.

By default it should be enabled if you ask me this you never disabled it as it is a somewhat tricky process you'd know if you had done it. So just give it a try.
