Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake in Croatia
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake was recorded on December 29th with the epicenter near the town of Petrinja. It occurred at a depth of approximately 10 km (6.2 miles).
It was the strongest earthquake recorded in the area since the advent of modern seismographic equipment. Several smaller earthquakes (up to magnitude 4.8) occurred today.
Seven deaths were reported along with dozens of injuries. The mayor of Petrinja said half the town has been destroyed; displacing thousands.
