Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Utah
At 7:09 AM local time, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck approximately 15 miles west of Salt Lake City near the town of Magna. The USGS reports it occurred at a depth of roughly 6.6 miles.
There were power outages, gas leaks and a chemical spill at Kennecott. The acid spill, and a plume it released into the air, was not threatening the public, officials say.
Structural damage was reported - including numerous mobile homes being knocked off their foundations.
