i have dreams of teaching about space

id love to teach about space. I just love everything about it and im beginning to notice more and more especially amongst teenagers and school children that when you talk to them about space and the sun and asteroids and whatnot they're clueless as to what you're on about. I also have 10 year old son and hes currently in primary 6 and over the years ive been teaching him pretty much everything i can about space in preparation for it coming up in class just so he can show off a little to his teacher you know and have his teacher sort go "wow, you know that" haha you know how it is in primary school. Anyway, ive been asking him and so far he has been taught nothing, yes NOTHING about space so far, hes been taught a little bit about the sun but nothing about planets, asteroids, comets, solar systems or galaxies. He hasn't even taught about what shooting stars are yet as he had to ask me the other day what they were and i was quite astounded and pretty disgusted that by primary 6, around 10, 11 years old they arent teaching kids about the big beautiful universe above our heads, i think that is absolutely ludicrous and everywhere you go right now everyone is looking down at their phones all the time not caring whats above their heads and i just think its gonna get even worse with the next generation.

It is bad I agree, but I don't recall ever being taught about astronomy when I was in Primary School either - more than half a century ago.

@ArishMell that is crazy and i dont know why it gets my back up so much but it does i dont think its ever been taught as much as it should be really and i just feel that has to change, i mean for my 10 year old to be coming back and still asking me things like is there anything else but earth which he asked recent, well it kinda angered me and just made me ask "what on earth are they bloody teaching you at school" you know. And i just have dreams of doing something about it haha

@damoscott93 I taught remedial English for years. The early grade levels in school used to be called Grammar School. No more. Grammar is now considered a boring and essentially useless subject.
Most students can't even write a simple basic business letter.
