Is it hard to be a poet as a job?

I might have to get a job soon and I'm thinking that being a poet might be good. I know you don't have to rhyme all the time

The best poetry, imo, and the route I chose when I was able to write, was free verse. It takes time to build the skill of brevity and assonance though, it doesn't happen overnight. However, poetry is pretty much a fruitless labor, and has to truly come from within, nothing cohersed will produce anything worthwhile.
