made it out on a run today
About a year ago, this conservationist society bought the trailhead and made a lot of improvements to it. For years until this point, it had been occupied by this semi-abandoned building with bats and stuff living in there, and insects galore. I'd been involved with cleanup projects in years prior, aimed at prepping the big ol' shack for the annual 5K. It was always an exercise in putting lipstick on a pig, but it worked well enough. Anyway, they had knocked down the building & replaced it with an actual good one, built a real parking lot (it used to be gravel), and constructed a pathway from the parking lot to the actual trail (you used to have to run/bike on the road).
Anyway, I hadn't gotten a chance to stop in bc their hours are a bit narrow and stuff, but I did today before my run. I talked with the lady at the register (of the gift shop) for probably a good 20 minutes about the work they do, and I picked up a pamphlet from their organization. I went out on a 3 mile run & made it back in 32 minutes, which is shittier than normal for me, but I shouldn't be too surprised since my breakfast hadn't been substantial and this was before lunch.
Ah well, I'll get a good time in sooner or later. I'm just grateful to get out of the house and all.
