A Halloween Tale
There was once a long long time ago in a far far away place deep in the darkest of forest there was the bravest of the knights traveling on his way home. Upon his horse, he sadly made his way back to his castle. He was the loneliest knight for he had no woman to love. And his heart was broken.
As he sat slumped in his saddle riding his horse through the dark forest there appeared before him a glowing light. And as he drew closer he saw that it was a woman. He drew closer and closer. He saw that it was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. His heart rose to such heights seeing her. When he finally came upon her she said come with me into the night. Something deep within him told him he would be making the biggest mistake of his life and that he should turn away or surely perish. But she was so beautiful he could not resist her temptation. He had to follow her into the darkness of night.
There was no moon there were no stars in the sky only the glow of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. It was as if she had cast a spell upon him. It was as if she had captured his very soul and was helpless in her grasp. So he abandoned his horse and followed her into the darkest night. Soon they arrive at a clearing where a small Cottage laid. She invited him in. He could not stop himself he had to follow. All appeared normal. A fireplace and all the accommodations of a quaint little cottage. But there was this large boiling cauldron. She said it was the meal she had been preparing for him. This sent a cold chill through him even the bravest of knights. She scooped out a bowl of the most delicious stew he had ever smelled. She said won't you please join me? The smell of the stew intoxicated him. He could not resist. He was hypnotized into a hunger that could not be satisfied. And he ate of the stew. He fell into a deep sleep . . .
As his head was about to sink into the cauldron of boiling stew he sprang to life awakening to see an ugly old witch laughing as he lay trapped in the boiling pot. With all the strength within him, his eyes were lit on fire and with the strength of a thousand men. He was not going to allow himself to die in this way. He struggled his way out of the cauldron and reached for the witch grabbing her by the throat snapping her neck and throwing her to the ground.
He collapsed near death when he heard from under him a voice screaming out help me help me! He saw that there was a trap door on the floor and with what little strength he had left he pulled it open. He crawled down the stairway and saw a woman imprisoned in an iron cage. She motioned to him pointing at the key hanging on the wall. He took the key and freed her from her capture. She wrapped her arms around him in tears thanking him for saving her from her torment. He saw that it was the same beautiful woman he had met in the forest. But how could this be?
She wasn't she explained. It was the evil witch who cast a spell upon him appearing as her. She could see that he was dying. And was barely hanging on. She reached out to him and touched him and he was magically healed of all his wounds! For she was a witch too. But a good witch with a heart of gold. And the mighty Knight's heart was lifted for he knew he had found his princess and so they rode off together having found each other and they lived happily ever after.
