I think one reason it happens is when intimacy ceases in a relationship. Eventually people crave it and when an opportunity presents itself they cheat. I'm not saying it's right or okay. It happens.

@Fairydust I'm certain there are other reasons too. Sociopaths don't care what others feel. I'm guessing some people enjoy cheating. Maybe it's the thrill or something. Maybe they don't see sex with others as something wrong. Like swingers. I'm just guessing.
