Said He, Said She

"’Tis sad, indeed," said he,
with solemn grin,
"to live solitarily,
without a friend."

"Oh, yes!" said she,
in somber tone,
"How sad to face
one's day alone."

"And furthermore," said he,
in mock chagrin,
“to eat alone
must be a sin."

"Oh, yes!" said she,
with furrowed brow,
"I can't imagine
that right now."

"Think, too," frowned he,
"of reading alone;
or talking aloud--
no one else at home!"

"Oh, my!" said she,
tears in her eyes,
"the thought truly
makes me cry."

"My dear," said he,
"don't shed your tears,
you're much too sweet--
allay those fears!"

"Alright," sniffed she,
"If you think so.
And perhaps let's walk,
it's near dusk, you know."

"Oh, yes!" grinned he,
his smile grand,
eyes aglow as
he takes her hand.

"My dear," pleads he,
“Why feed alone?
To think thee friendless,
Company postponed...

“I am a gentleman, I say,
so would you please,
come and stay,
as wife, with me?"

"Oh, my!" said she,
her face quite pink,
"Please good sir,
please let me think."

"Of course," says he,
with gentle smile,
"just recall that dusk
gathers the while."

"'Tis true," says she;
"Thou noble man,
together let’s make our home--
such a lovely plan!"

"I dare say," said he,
"My heart beats strong!"
"Oh, my!" says she,
and kissed him anon.

Slow, now, the two,
Walk hand in hand,
He said…she said:
Life shared is grand!
