He said let’s be swingers. The idea of love has fallen really far from what it used to be. There’s a difference between lust and love after all, or am I just naive?

You’re not naive, and there is a BIG difference. You don’t sound like you’re on the same page. Bringing other partners into the mix seems the farthest thing from "romance" to me, but then I prefer monogamy myself.
