My favorite Romantic films
What's yours, mine are
Before Sunset, the 2nd in Richard Linklater's Before trilogy, the first is darn good too, but the 2nd is even better in my books, the scenes in the first 2 films have such a natural feel, the 2 leads are just talking and connecting, that's the key term for what they have connection, and it's for me the closest a film ever came to making me see and feel what a rare and true love is like, it's living in a magical world, amongst everyone else who aren't experiencing what you are.
I was going to type in here that i'd be watching this next, but i can play it all in my head still, it needs to just live inside my head for a little while longer before actually seeing it again, but what a film, so much work went into it to make it look like the most natural and easy looking thing ever. That's what it takes for a film like this to be like that blood sweat and tears.
Jean Vigo's L'Atalante -- classic early sound picture of a newlyweds going on a boat trip and stuff
and
Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love -- from the master of cool comes this lusciously wrought drama of a love that could never be, the fleeting moments caught as if in a state of rapture.
round out my top romantic films, none of them are comedies btw.
Now it's all of your duty to let me know what else i should check out, so i can see and feel the special moments there was and are for you, film is for everybody, we all have those special films we feel are ours, and indeed they are ours, but also anyone else's when there's that connection.
