How to actually talk to someone you like

There is someone I’m interested in and although I know that we share similar interests I have no idea how to approach them in a normal way. They once messaged me on insta out of the blue (we had barley spoken to each other) and we had a short conversation but I honestly haven’t got a clue how to approach him. Any advice

Showing interest in anything they’re passionate about is a always a good step
Like if you know they’re really into something (whether you’re also into it or not) you could try to bring it up in conversation cause either they would probably like talking to someone with a shared interest or at the least if they’re passionate about it I’m sure they would be happy to talk about it to someone showing a genuine interest in it

@JRVanguard I totally agree and I think if we got into a conversation it would go well but I just don’t know how to start a conversation. It would be odd if I approached them just asking ‘oh I heard you’re interested in...’

@FriedDoughnuts That’s very relatable
I’m pretty socially awkward myself 😅
I know you said you’ve barely interacted but you must know each other somehow
Were you in a class together or anything?

@JRVanguard yes we share some classes and also are mutuals on some social media. In classes I feel there is barley any chance to start a conversation -even if I could

@FriedDoughnuts Well if you share classes you can just reach out like “Hey, I feel like I’m missing something. Did you get question 4 in the packet?” or whatever. It’ll also have the bonus effect of making them think you think they’re smart

@JRVanguard haha yes I guess talking about something academics related is my best shot. Maybe I’ll have the confidence to talk to them soon

@FriedDoughnuts I’m sure it’ll go well. All you need is a foot in the door😌 Sending confidence and positive vibes, go knock their socks off😊
