How would you go about

I’ve been trying to convince my wife that getting a beaded dragon would make an awesome pet for the family. (Yes I know dogs are better but my living situation kinda sucks for getting a dog) I have a 3 year old daughter and I want something that would be happy with her handling it (under supervision of course) I’ve just been trying to justify the purchase for a 40 gallon (yes I know it would eventually need something bigger) with all the stuff you would need is around 175-200$. Her argument is space for the enclosure and she flat out does not think they make great pet.

the novelty will wear off and you ll be stuck with it and all the stuff for it. though aquariums and a bearded dragon as well would probably sell well

@Penny way too big bearded dragons only get to 18-24 inches iguanas get massively huge like 5-6 feet. Growing up I had a friend who had an iguana and he would walk it like a dog in the summer

@Ozuye502 omg im sorry i didnt realize. my ex-hubs brother had an iguana and it only grew to like 2 feet long or so including it's tail. maybe it was a dwarf iguana? he was really cool though, Iggy. lol

@Penny growth stunned like that is generally due to a serious malnutrition problem earlier in life because dwarf iguanas are usually only 5-6 inch lizards and are not usually able to be handled. But hey it’s ok. But they do take about 6 years to become full grown they do make excellent pets if you can handle the size of one. + when they get defensive at full grown that tail is like a baseball bat to the shin.

Well good luck convincing her to have this as a pet.

I thought iguanas were very high maintenance but I could be wrong. I've only been in close contact once when I held one at the zoo. Very cool but I'll stick with cats. 🙂 Good luck though!
They can have a lot of personality! Pretty easy to care for. But you should probably opt for something she wants too.

It's a lot of work if you are not going to huge commitment, don't do it.
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@Randie it’s more my thing than my wife’s she not a reptile person but my daughter loves the idea
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
they carry salmonella
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@JohnnySpot so do fish and frogs and birds proper hand washing and hygiene prevents that
