@Patriot96 Yeah my dad suffered from nightmares for the rest of his life. During the day he was normal, but at night
the war would come back. He drank a little, but since his dad was an alcoholic, he was careful not to go down that road.

He told me that guilt was a big problem. I'm sure your uncle probably felt some do to him surviving and others were taken
on their first sortie. That would bother me. Dads best friend that went through everything with him and was never the same.

@DogMan yes, my aunts told me how he would scream in his sleep reliving missions.
My uncle lied about his age. He was only 17 when he enlisted. He was a survivor of the famous Ploesti, Rumania raid of August 1, 1943. You can look it up.
They normally went over the target at about 23,000 feet. On tis raid they went in at only 30 feet. Thats correct thiirty feet.

@Patriot96 Thank you, I will check out those raids. I love reading about that stuff. 30ft off the deck, I wonder if they were dropping or maybe strafing.

My dad was in the 88th Infantry Blue Devils. They were the tip of the spear in Italy. I read all the books about them.
After dad passed I received 2 scrap books with every letter he wrote home. Also all his documents and medals.

I was planning on going into the military at 17 right after HS, He said he would only sign for me if I went in the Air Force.

So that's what I did, and became a fighter crew chief for 8 years. F-4 Phantoms in the 70's F-15's in the 80s.
