So much hate and evil was done in the name of organized religion. It contributed the genocides of indigenous people including the Native Americans and Native Australians and the enslavement of African people and from witch trials and "holy" wars.
These are the reasons why I'm not religious, I rather term myself spiritual in terms of philosophy, My spirituality comes from connecting with the universe and nature and not getting guidance from manmade books or some personal deity.
It's best to seek wisdom from within than from old books and so called religious leaders.

@LeopoldBloom Do you really think so? I think there's an overwhelming urge to ask "so what" regarding spirituality. If every Christian were to practice christianity as it were meant to be, I still think the number of christians would be down. Believing in a loving god and seeing the emperors close is just too hard for me to do.

@originnone There's no way to know what would have happened in some alternate universe where everyone practices Christianity in the way you have in mind. If that had been the pattern from the beginning, the number of Christians today would be much smaller as the people whose ancestors were converted by force would be some other religion now.
The reason young people are ignoring spirituality is at least in part due to the horrible example of their elders. You can't say "God is love," then turn around and say that gay and trans people should be executed.

@LeopoldBloom Agreed....It's also hard to say God is love but he allows things to happen to me that make me want to end my life....and who hides his face when he could make things better for me. You can tell that if I have any faith at all, it's a disappointed and angry faith. But that's a big if......To your point, yes, God is all loving and forgiving, but he just hates gays.....interesting isn't it?
And it will be rebuilt and the gospel will be spread anyway 😄

The core problem is greed, hatred and ignorance. Religion is simply one way that human beings express this. Eliminating religion will solve nothing.

@SW-User Yes greed, hatred and ignorance are the problem but preventing organized religions from fostering these feelings would be an important step.

Only two of the seven churches had a fair report.
If the righteous scarcely makes it where will the ungodly stand
Modern organized religion isn't what God established.

Don't do that. It's not the building's fault and at least some of them are works of art, or at least the best looking building in the area.
