I Think Indoctrinating Children With Religion Is Child Abuse

I've been talking to a bisexual boy who is also a Christian lately.
I didn't know about it at first, but when he asked me if I believed in God and I replied with "no", he made me realize how religious people are pretty much victims of an ideology.
I couldn't resist and asked him if his family accepted him for who he is, turned out he doesn't even accept himself. He's so convinced of the idea that his entire life is a sin, it honestly hurts just thinking about how there are people spending their entire lives believing in all the teachings of their religion even if they're directly against them.
I hope one day enough people will realize how harmful many religions are fundamentally so that eventually they will be considered nothing more than mythologies.

Alternatively the religion is right and he is lucky he was indoctrinated into it.

@Emosaur No one can be forced to believe something. You are given information and its up to you if you believe it or not. You have been given information that religions exist and from your post it suggests you don't believe in one. Therefore you chose not to believe in it.

The age of which you are given information makes you more likely to believe, like as a child say. Many children are told Santa exists and they even have visual proof so to speak. But all children work out that Santa doesn't exist.

God gives no proof to us of His existence except for the teachings from ancient generations past, yet many children still grow up and believe in God. And they have not seen Him.

My point is belief is a choice and cannot be forced.

@Emosaur If you don't want to believe in something then you won't. Nothing can make you believe something you don't want to believe.

You aren't defining force by saying someone is more likely to believe when they are a child. That does not constitute force.

@Emosaur OK if we just use words the way we think they mean rather than what they are actually defined as then I believe all religion haters are forced to do so by none indoctrination

@Emosaur That's beliefs forced onto someone, but not someone forced to believe. Because you can't force someone to believe something if they don't want to. They can just say "I believe" and not actually believe.

You obviously didn't get it

@Emosaur In my opinion it is right and not harmful and actually is good moral guidance.

@Emosaur Yes but that was written at a time when that was normal, and accepted as part of society. It's society that's has changed what it thinks is right and normal. The book can't magically rewrite itself 3000 years later.

@Emosaur It doesn't need to be rewritten. The New Testament teaches us to be nice to each other. If we follow that then we can all be happier.
