A curious request from Burnham. He wants to be involved in the choice of bishops in the Church of England.

Three issues concern me. He is a Roman Catholic, not an Anglican.

Secondly, Prime Minister involvement in the past had not always been helpful. Margaret Thatcher, for one, poked her nose in, as did Churchill in the appointment of the successor of William Temple.

A curious bunch of woke female bishops have been appointed to the House of Lords. One will not even address God as Father.And I gather another male cannot be appointed until 2030. Time perhaps not to have any there at all.

I don’t understand why Burnham is involving himself here.

Well, my friend, I guess that the chickens have come to roost. Personally, I don't like Burnham and you're right that the so-called "wokeness" will ultimately destroy the Anglicanism that is always been that in reference to the past. Macmillan chose Ramsey despite the strong objections of the outgoing Archbishop, Geoffrey Fisher. Fisher actively opposed Ramsey’s appointment, viewing him as too academic, poorly organized, and overly Anglo-Catholic. There's indeed a difference between being catholic Anglican and Anglo-Catholic, and Ramsey wasn't the former.

@BritishFailedAesthetic Can you say that you know anything about God without having a relationship with Him? It's not only about reading the Bible, but also keep using the mind that God have you and respecting the traditions that are inside your Christian strain of worship. That's the Anglican three legged stool. Reading ones Bible in the same instance of praying to God works the best for me. It's like running long distances. One runs through a scenery whilst still thinking but gradually ones thinking becomes more precise because there's a switch off of any noise that interferes with the running itself. Likewise, social values are just scenery and the switch off is pure faith. Of course, the running is living ones life according to what has been since the beginning and will ever be there.

@val70 Ofcourse I pray to God. Burying my head in theology books is not my exclusive form of worship- prayer is far more important.

Why should God ever be assumed to be male and addressed as father? Why do you have a problem with gender neutrality and simply referring to God as God?

And what difference does any of this make to anyone outside this shrinking denomination?

All Prime Ministers have been involved, and no doubt had the timing been right, Rishi Sunak would have signed off on one. That's the problem with having a State church (to which I do not belong), the State must have a say.
