There was some good and some bad came from it. Funny story. A priest named Quinn was leading a church in Ontario. Vatican 2 happened and he had to conduct the mass in English instead of Latin. At the end of the service several laymen approached him and suggested he go to rehab. He had been drinking for years but no one realized it because he was speaking Latin. Once he began speaking in English it was obvious to all that he was drunk. He said it saved his life as he went on to run a rehab in Detroit. Manfred Mann made the priest famous

In Ontario a priest, name of Quinn,
Sang his masses with vigor, 'gainst sin,
But in Latin, 'tis true,
So that NOBODY knew
Father Quinn was just CHOCK full of gin.

Strangely I have a niece that wants to go back to pre second vatican concil and attends old format latin masses. Her views are much more dogmatic and pre concil as well. This movement is growing.

@val70 Yes they are extreme. My brother in law works for a pro-life group and abortion is the whole family's obsession. They love Trump because he overturned Roe vs. Wade. There is a growing divide in my family that kind of mimics the church. My brother and I are no longer believers.

@JimboSaturn That's a shame. I choose to become Anglican after a bishop that almost was at my confirmation was accused of pedofilia and said in an interview that he found the act to be reasonable for the time.

Thanks for this interesting summary. I am not in the Roman Catholic tradition, but it is good to be informed of other people's disagreements in an easy-to-understand way.
