Look at it this way, the same country whose government crucified Christ are the ones who was used to (in a sense) firmly established the gospel to be spread to other nations.
God has his reasons for allowing the Church of Rome to maintain its headship over the earthly buildings that we call Churches.
Scripture tells us that judgment starts at the church!
There are those that believe that the harlot written of in Revelation dressed in purple is Catholic Church.
It is also believed by many that City referred to as Babylon spoken of in Revelation is Rome. A place where the seven churches set.
And we know in Revelations there are only two churches of the seven that gets a fair report, not a good one but a fair one and those seven churches represent all the churches that are in existence today.
