Elessar, who blocked me after reading my posts about the war in Ukraine, says: “Christians conquered Rome.” Did they? Not in the traditional sense. Rome was conquered through martyrdom, spirit, and spreading the word of Christ. It is center of Catholic Church. The reason for this is the work of Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul traveled to Rome to preach the gospel. Rome was the epicenter, the capital of the world, and although they were Jews, Paul was a Roman citizen and Peter was a Roman subject.
Peter is thought to be the first pope, the founder of the Catholic Church. Paul was the man whose mission it was to preach to gentiles and bring about their conversion. They were both martyred in Rome. Paul had returned to Yerushalayim and was arrested there. They brought him to Rome and sentenced him to death, his punishment being beheading. Peter was crucified in Rome, upside down. Romans were pagans who persecuted Christians. Prior to his death, there was the Great Fire of Rome that Christians were blamed for. Nero put Christians, Peter being one, to death in its aftermath. However, the pagans needed no excuse to martyr the early Christians. The Roman persecution of Christians lasted for about 300 years.
It has to be said that it is the Jewish elders who demanded Jesus' death, and the Romans obliged.
