Religion is weird.

I've been with my church about a year or so now, baptized about half a year ago. Before that I was a hypocritical mess of a human, and honestly I'm still not the best Christian out there,

Buuuut, what Ive found funny, is all those people that see something like..... Pokemon and DnD for example and scream and call it satanic and that you'll go to hell,

Meanwhile, actual Christian rules: don't give in to anger, don't rush to judge others unless you yourself are perfect in the eyes of the Lord, also literally says that those who spread false gospel and try to deceive the young (like for eg by claiming a videogame will doom you to hell) will themselves be thrown in the deepest pits of hell...

Just find it extremely ironic

Call me cynical, but this is partly why I think most people don't really believe in their own religion. Does anyone really make an effort to follow their holy text or official church teachings?

@BohoBabe I definitely see where you are coming from, I can't speak for others, but to me and my religion, i believe it's because it's not meant to be easy to follow them, we are flawed chaotic beings, who live to satisfy different wants. In the end , we can never truly follow the bible, but we can try, and if we could follow it without fail, then Jesus would not have needed to die for our sins

@GeminiDuality But it's not just that religious people fall short. I never see them even making the effort. If I legit believed Hell was real, I'd do everything I can to avoid going there.

@BohoBabe that falls into the hole of human nature and temptation etc, but it's a fair point, I'm not a good example at all I mess up a ton, but that's also why we believe God often punishes some believers worse, because they know and yet still don't do, that's why I'm curious about the question

@GeminiDuality That's another thing I disagree with, the concept of punishment. People who are born into bad circumstances are more likely to do bad things. Now of course, we as a society still have to punish people for doing bad things, we can't let criminals run wild because they were born into poverty. But if there is a god, he created all of this. So why allow people to be born into poverty, knowing there's a better chance they'll cause crime, then send them to Hell?

@BohoBabe the irony in your statement is that the bible actually states it's the rich that have the hardest time entering heaven.

The answer is of course I don't know, how would I? What I do believe is that we are punished because we as a race gained free choice and have used it since then to pat our own backs, to lose ourselves in our wants, and to absolutely ruin our planet.
I can't prove God exists, but I do not need to prove that Humanity is a blight on this planet

@GeminiDuality But then couldn't you make the argument that this god should have made a world without wealth or poverty? I don't believe Communism is possible, but Yahweh could have created a reality where it is.

We actually don't have free will. Every decision we make is a result of other factors we have no control over. It's actually been proven that our subconscious makes decisions before our conscious is aware of it.
GeminiDuality · 31-35, M
@BohoBabe in that case you are by all means free to believe what you want to, personally I will continue to believe we all have free will

He could have made a world without those things, and in HIS world , yep that's what we believe will be the case, but we shaped this world in our interests, and we decided we wanted those things. Look I can't tell you why something exists, I can't tell you what Jesus thinks,

I believe because to me the idea of pure random chance existence, resulting in eternal nothingness sounds hollow , I can't tell you why God allowed drugs, sexual abuse, murder, cp, or any of the other horrifying things, I can guess and assume but I don't know.

@BohoBabe You have a performance based mindset when it comes to religion.. You think the religious must never do any of the ""sins"" their religion identifies and must do all the good works their religion lays out.. If you where religious you would have a Works salvation POV and doctrine..

As a Christian i am called upon to Believe the standards that God has revealed in the Bible as being true and good.. I must acknowledge that i fall short of those standards every day and that i need to trust in the Way the LORD Jesus has made for me to be justly forgiven all the times that i sin and all the times i fail to do the good things that The LORD has told me to do..

The standards revealed in the Bible are there to teach us that we all fall short of the good standards of God all the time and therefore we need the Intervention of The LORDs atonement which He secured for the forgiveness of our sins on the cross..

Eternal life with the LORD Jesus was never and can never be secured by good works performance or successful sin avoidance.. No one does the Law without failing to do the Law..

Ones belief in the teachings of God are totally separate from ones level of adherence to those teachings.. Like an alcoholic can hate themselves for drinking alcohol to excess, they are yearn to break the habit.. But their addiction sees to it that they will continue to abuse alcohol.. Their abuse of alcohol is not proof that they love alcoholism.. and neither is a religious persons sinning proof that the do not believe that their sins are wrong..
