What is a religious moderate to you?

And what are the core tenets of religious moderation? I feel religious moderation includes coexistence with other belief systems and people who are different. It’s living your life based on your faith system but not forcing or coercing others into believing as you do. There is mutual respect and tolerance and acceptance of differences even within families and even though there may not be agreement with lifestyles or beliefs there is no mistreatment like bullying or harassment, persecution, or shunning. What do you think?

A religion is a set of teachings usually codafied in a specific book or group of books..

If one believes in the teachings within those books then one can be called a follower of that religion.. Devout..

The term moderate has no relation to the term religion..

If a religion states that it's followers are tasked with enacting violence against others until they convert to that religion or submit to the rule of that religion.. Then those who claim to be followers of that religion should be waging religious war on unbelievers.. A person who claims to be part of that religion and does not engage in violence against not believers is not a ""Moderate"" they are false or not true members of that religion..

And the same is true of other religions which teach pacifism.. If someone claims to be part of that religion and engages in violence against others they again can be called false or not true members of that religion..

Now 3rd parties may prefer people of a certain religion who do not engage in violence and will describe them as ""Moderate"" as a compliment.. But that often has nothing to do with the actual tenants of that religion..

So if you have One religion and you find people of that religion who are nice to unbelievers and do not engage in violence and other members of that religion who are nasty and violent towards unbelievers then you can conclude that one group are true followers of their religion and the others are false.. But if you do not look into the actual teachings of that religion then you will end up with the terms Radical and Moderate.. Which are false descriptors..
