They say that when he was older, Jesus hung around with
Tax collectors and prostitutes. What does that say about his opinion of clergy? You would think he would have been interested in debating philosophy with them.

Yeah Jesus associated with all sorts, he did it to ultimately spread the news of the Gospel.
He wasn't a hippy who debated philosophy but God the Son who came to save us from our sin, died on the cross and shed his blood from our sin and even had the wrath of God, rightly meant for us, poured on him and even raised on the third day so that all who trust in him will not go to hell, but have an everlasting eternity in heaven.
