Should I look into religion?

Okay, again, not the type of person to seek out stuff like this but man I am feeling lonely and I need another persons thoughts on this.

Basically, I have a very dear childhood friend that is a very big orthodox christian. I myself am a huge atheist, I wasn’t raised religious and I was only taught the basics of it but it never pulled me towards religion and things like that. Maybe that’s a good thing, maybe it’s a bad thing, I am not sure.

She noticed I haven’t been myself for quite a while now and has been trying to get me to open up to her about it all. (all the stuff I talked about in my last post.) I just let her know I was dealing with some stuff and struggling quite a bit and that I was feeling exhausted and kind of at the end of the road. She recommended going to church with her and devoting myself to a higher deity but I am not quite sure about the idea. She has been pushing me to try it and I don’t know if I should. I really don’t feel like trying because I have a very huge gut feeling I’ll be wasting my time.

What should I do? Will praying and getting closer to religion help in any way? I highly doubt so but I am quite curious what anyone has to say about this. Please let me know what you think.

Orthodox Christianity is very formal and ritualistic, without the baggage of Catholicism. If you feel a pull toward that, go for it.
