Proverbs 9:10 - "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
This fear, or reverence of the Lord, indeed makes us think, before we act or speak. As we gain knowledge, we gain wisdom.
When the Bible says to "fear God," it does not mean to be terrified, but rather to have a deep reverence and respect for God's power and majesty, essentially meaning to hold God in high regard and live accordingly. Jesus loves and wants everyone to be saved from the consequences that sin brought us all; but that our sins can be forgiven through Jesus Christ and the work He did to pay for our sins on the cross.
