My previous post could do with an update, but i shall rather just write in my own words, that i'm amazed at the bounty there is to be had for LDS literature, both by and about. The highlight i got after that post was the 5 volumes of Brigham Young's Discourses, all of them well over a thousand pages each.
And these were cheap
I believe this shall overrule my Gurdjieffian studies, so much more to get, and most importantly to read, i know the old rebuff that it doesn't mean a thing just to have stuff. Plus a large amount on YouTube, and the official site, and probably other sites of for example those who escaped.
I know very little about this religion, my family would call it a cult, and that would have been my default orientation towards it, but man oh man they've risen in recent days, the scholarship on it's side looks breathtaking.
I was browsing YouTube a few days ago and saw that an ex-Mormon was doing a reaction video on that South Park episode, and it i guess rejuvenated a sleeping interest.
There's so many sides to things, when it's a thing exposing it, how accurate is it? Is there a good retort Mormons have?
But in essence i'm interested because of how my default orientation is, it's the same part of my brain that yearns to learn more about esotericism, i see there's some Freemasonry connections to it, but again, is that accurate. And mind control, how does their MC compare with Scientology? Pressing questions!! And it's just a little off the hot button issues of today, god i don't wanna dwell on those things, when Mitt Romney was a candidate that would have been in Jarfffian terms a wrong time to get invested in it all.
I love to collect in areas where there's a substantial body of literature in it, and whoa, this is like a motherload of material!!
I apologize in advance to any Mormons here who may be offended with how i talk about their beliefs, so far i don't know enough to actually be offensive, so i want to get my feet in the right direction by acknowledging my stupidity, and a sincere desire to learn what it's all about, but according to my instinctual drives.
What are my instinctual drives?
Oh I'm glad you asked. It's to inundate the senses with material from all across the board, naturally i'm most interested in the origins, and history, the early days, there was at least one massacre i see back then, and the racial thing, how Black people are viewed or at least were viewed, all of that is extremely interesting, and the polygamy part too, and the differences between the mainstream side and the Fundamentalist side where slimy individuals like Warren Jeffs are. I want it all, and it's gonna be a wild ride i think.
I talked briefly in the past on SW with a former member, and i get the sense that it could be a living nightmare for some, and it could be a sensitive topic for some. I in no way want to cause a stir, or upset anyone's psyche, this is just some doofus all excited about embarking on a new subject.
And near my town here i think there's a Mormon church, or are they called Tabernacle, that horn statue thing can be seen in the distance as you drive closer to my home, makes me think that if i'm persuaded by all the resources i could maybe go there and be amongst others all enamored with it.
