@TinaP I am familiar with that reference.
If you know that scripture, do you agree that evangelical Christianity needs to be checked where government is concerned?

You are a bigot@SW-User
SW-User
@TinaP how?

The entire notion of a modern nation state is a non Biblical idea, if we want to be literal about things. (Where in the Bible are Parliaments or Senates mentioned?)

The people of Israel were originally ruled by Judges.
Then they had Kings.
Then they were under the dominion of occupying powers: Assyrians, Babylonians, Romans, among others.

After the fall of the Roman empire, "Christendom" consisted of medieval kingdoms. The King was considered to be ruling by divine ordination. It was all part of the "natural order" of God's world.

In fact, the Church was opposed to the rise of "nationalism", as it was seen as an overthrowing of that natural order. (I am using the word nationalism in its original sense: the transition from kingdoms to modern-style nations.)

And of course, by no stretch of the imagination is the United States of America even hinted at in the Bible.

The "Christian idea" is that the Church is universal.

My own take is that images of "flag and cross", or "American eagle and Jesus" are bordering on idolatry. What are Christians from the rest of the world to make of those images?

As Andy Stanley , a pastor in the Atlanta area and son of TV evangelist Charles Stanley, says in his book Not in it to win it, "I do love my country. I love it deeply. But when I die, I am not going to Washington, DC. And neither are you."

SW-User
@Mathers it’s pretty easy
SW-User
@DrWatson you should read up on dominion theology …and see who ascribes to that idea.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
I'd say it's more of a nationalist idea; throughout history, nations & their leaders have been using religion as a means to unite and distinguish themselves from the "enemy" and have a motive to fight. It's not just a Christian idea for sure. I guess if Christian nationalism was mostly about the religion then christian nations would want to unite somehow.

@sree251 the US getting the economy and natural resources fight right?

Count the military bases and note where they are located.

We have done well for the plutocrats.
SW-User
@Gloomy thank you!
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy You need to travel more. Thailand is a Buddhist society, lots of western expats living the good life there without having to bow to Buddha. It's the same in the USA with churches in every town from coast to coast. It is as Christian as a country can get; and yet, no one is required to worship Jesus.
Nationalism and christianity two ideologies that have caused lots of misery throughout history and have helped each other out many times were destined to become one.

Of course it's a christian idea but not one every christian would agree with and so far it's exclusive to the US I think.

@RebelliousSpirit Brazil might surprise you.

It would benefit everyone if they would all just congregate to some corner of the world somewhere and leave the rest of us alone.
Mathers · 61-69
Why don’t you leave the recast of us alone? We would greatly benefit from the absence of your opunion @Eternity
Eternity · 26-30, M
@Mathers we arent the ones trying to pass our opinions as laws that everyone else has to follow...
Mathers · 61-69
Neither are we. You appear paranoid sir@Eternity

Is "God" a Christian idea? Is love a Christian idea? Where does any "idea" come from?

I've lost count of all the various "ideas" of those who identify as christian. Lost count of all the different "truths" of the "True Christians" who often imply infallibility because the "spirit" guides them.

Madness. All looking to the next world and betraying this one. All looking up instead of across. Serving , worshipping, fearing, an IDEA instead of opening their eyes and looking.
Mathers · 61-69
Jesus himself said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it was my servants would fight.’

@Mathers

Follow along :

You said: you would be better off by avoiding consciousness “

I said: aren’t you “SELF impressed “

You said : Not with you

It broke down with you not understanding “self impressed”.

At least try, I get bored very quickly.

What i have noticed from reading the comments is that 2 or 3 different definitions of nationalism going around in different peoples heads.. Two people debating an issue when they have very different ideas of what nationalism is.. Such discussions are a waste of time if the parties have very different ideas of what the debate is about..
SW-User
@Adstar those involved are well aware of the idea.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@SW-User They are well aware of their own idea..
SW-User
@Adstar it is what it is
Graylight · 51-55, F
No discussion needed. It is utterly in defiance of essential Christian teachings.
Depends. Are these the christians that love God or the ones that love evil. Cause they both claim the same God with the same name but their God has two different sets of behaviors depending on the follower. Looks like some of them evil ones are definitely upset by this question though.
SW-User
@Mathers 😳😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
I love messing with clowns like you.

Not me mate. You are projecting your inadequacies@SW-User
SW-User
@Mathers thanks for the coins
Adstar · 56-60, M
Jesus said His kingdom was not of This world.. So for a Christian my citizenship is not of a nation on earth..

Now can a Christian love the land they are living in? Yes.. Can they love their neighbour ( fellow countryman ) Yes..

As for the popular definition of Christian nationalisim thats just pasting an ugly image on Christians because the person hates Christianity.. When you hate you need to project evil intent on the ones you hate to justfy your bigotry and to call someone a nationalist using the most negative version of nationalism you know of as the standard is just that...

(John 18:36) "Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence."
SW-User
@Adstar this question really is asking about the behavior of certain believers.

It’s an old idea.

Thanks for your post
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
It’s hard to imagine a non-Christian coming up with that idea.
SW-User
Jesus said yes
SW-User
@SW-User what else did Jesus tell you?
SW-User
@SW-User he said stop using him as a reason to do stupid things
SW-User
@SW-User that is the best advice ever.
As with many aspects of humans alleging they speak for God, however they perceive God, if by "Christian idea," you mean "originating with Christ", no, I do not believe it is at all what Jesus intended.

It has been used for centuries as a defense against the appalling, amoral conduct of those in power as they rampaged around the earth, killing, raping, and enslaving the people who lived on land they wanted.
It's a left wing boogeyman.

@BritishFailedAesthetic perhaps you should read more.
@SW-User I prefer reading about archaeology and natural history thanks. No, not the Kent Hovind and answers in genesis shit you imagine me reading.
SW-User
@BritishFailedAesthetic I can only act on what you write.

Christian Nationalists do exist.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
Nationalism of any dirt is a leftist slur. Add the title Christian to nationalist and the leftists all wet their pants in dread since they stopping being national or Christian decades ago
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 for someone who uses a cross as an avi, you lie …

God said something about that.

Christianity is a drug …a pacifier for masses. Nationalism is the flag fools wave.
No good ever came from love of country.
It’s a fools errand.

Your opinions are geared for those who want to be told how think.

Take your infantile thinking elsewhere..
You were asked nicely
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User You are so clueless as to be a joke. Christianity is based on the TRUTH and it provides the WAY to the LIFE. You on the other hand are simply full of hate. You seek the destruction of mankind and the world while you are at it.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955
YOU, speak from a position of faith, which means nothing in REALITY. YOU are free to have faith.
Don’t expect respect from ME because you CLAIM to have knowledge based on faith.

I don’t seek the destruction of anything. This rock
That we exist on for a speck of time, is the only place we can exist.

Christians are the ones with apocalyptic wet dreams.
