@Nimbus because they do more harm than good. Just another means by which a great many people can be manipulated by a prominent few, and for fools to be separated from their money. We have enough of each of those already.
Basically religion should be banned for the same reason crystal meth is; sure it makes a lot of people feel good but it's way too easy for that shit to turn you into a maladjusted nutcase who can't function without it.
