Ever wonder what the difference in religions is?

Take Christianity and islam.
Islam holds that the individual is good and evil is external. Thus salvation is a thing the individual must earn
Christianity holds that evil is within while only God is Good. Thus salvation comes from God in the form of a gift. It is not something you could ever earn by yourself.
Thus in islam we see the externalization of evil and therefore constant conflict as the individual muslim blames others for his failures. A good looking woman must therefore be covered lest she cause the man to have lustful thoughts.
Christianity holds that the evil we see in our everyday lives is innate within us and therefore we love the other person as we recognize in him or her the struggles we all go through as we live our lives in the hope of the Grace God has given.

"Salvation comes from God in the form of a gift. It is not something you could ever earn yourself "

So true!!
I LOVE the teachings of Jesus. But I do NOT hold with church doctrine.
The church has hijacked Jesus's teachings and used them for its own, divisive agenda - that of control through reward and punishment.
But Jesus, is awesome.

@PhoenixPhail I rather think it depends on the church. There are alot of them and while the great liturgical (ancient) churches tend to be a lot more top down many of the evangelical are much more egalitarian. Of course the problem is how do you maintain the teachings of Jesus when every crackpot in the world is trying to make them into their pet hobby horse. The atheist socialist tries to use the teachings of Jesus to justify socialism even though Jesus called the one social justice warrior in His following a demon.
@hippyjoe1955 Yes, which church can make a lot of difference.

@PhoenixPhail It does. Like I say there is always the danger of new believers getting off track because they have not reached the spiritual maturity to realize the errors in their way. Of course at least one of the ancient churches has wandered from the way as well so simply being an old institution is no guarantee.
