Answers to common questions from non Muslims about Eid al adha ‼️

Eid al adha is an annual holiday where Muslims celebrate the end of the annual Holy Pilgrimage and commemorate the will of Abraham to sacrifice his son by sacrificing an animal and giving some of the meat to the poor and eating the rest with family.
( it is not obligatory to sacrifice an animal )

1/ “isn’t it wasteful ?”
Islam doesn’t teach us to be wasteful at all
The Quran says :
Al-A'raf - Verse 31

{Eat and drink, but do not waste.}

Also prophet Mohammed warned us of eating too much and eating meat everyday. Mohammed himself ate according to a balanced healthy diet.
It’s only a once in a year holiday and the meat is eaten and given away to those in need just like people eat Turkey on thanksgiving or a feast on Christmas.

2/ “was the son who Abraham intended to sacrifice Ishmael or Isaac according to Islam?”

The Quran actually doesn’t say which one. So some scholars say the first and others say the later.

3/ “wasn’t it cruel of Abraham to be willing to sacrifice his son ?”

In Islamic narrative, Abraham told his son directly about his vision and asked his son about his thoughts and his own son told his father to sacrifice him so Abraham didn’t trick or force his son. Moreover , Abraham was a special prophet with a big task who had direct communication with God.
It was a unique situation, God would never bear a normal human with such thing.
And In the end , it was a happy ending and God didn’t let an innocent soul get killed.

4/“ can’t Muslim get the meat from the supermarket?”

How did this meat get to the supermarket in the first place ?
Plus , if all Muslims get the meat from the supermarket the demand would increase and the supermarkets would need to provide more
So either we do it on our own or get it from the butcher or from the supermarket it’s the same result.

Abraham's Sacrifice
What do you think of people who feel the sacrifice of qurbani need not involve the sacrifice or an animal? Such as giving money or other support to the community?
@CopperCicada
As far as I know one member does it on behalf of the entire household.
(By household it’s a really loose term and can include a large scale )

Majority of scholars and mathhabs said it is not “ obligatory “ in Islam to do a qurbani.
