The children of God are anyone, according to John 3:16, who invites Jesus into their heart and life to be their Savior, and have had their sins forgiven by Jesus. He said He is Savior of the world, not one church. He came to save sinners, not the self-righteous, who think they don't need God.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
The church is described as the "body of Christ"....a body of born-again believers, come together to worship God...wherever they reside, and not a building. Jesus said, "Wherever two or more are gathered together in my name, so shall I be in the midst of them. People all over the world pray in different places. He never said it had to be in a church building. A person can pray at home and God will be just as close to them as he would if they were in a monastery or Temple or church building. He didn't come to save only church goers. Some are already saved when they attend any given church. He said He came to save sinners. All who will trust Him to save them from the condemnation that sin brought on us.
