I Am Sick of People Arguing About Religion and Politics

I’ve seen a lot of political posts here and on Facebook lately. Most revolve around what people think about the latest crazy/obscene thing Trump has done to provoke Americans and then play the victim when there’s any kind of backlash. First, another reason it’s such a travesty that Trump is president, aside from his bad policies, is that now all the news is about him. It’s not about the everyday struggles that common people like you and I are facing, it’s all about him and his shenanigans. But he is the president, and what he does also has significant consequences for the country, so it’s unavoidable that the news is all going to be about him.

The other thing is, down in the comments section, everyone states what they believe, and it’s all about exactly what you would expect, conservatives like whatever Trump’s doing and believe everything good happens because of him, and progressives are all opposed to it. But nobody ever gets to the root of the disagreements. Nobody ever seems to stop and wonder why conservatives like Trump and progressives don’t. It’s like each side is just using their beliefs and rhetoric to try to beat the other side a few inches back so they can win a few more elections this time, and they don’t seem to consider that even if they do win the political football game today, it’s all going to be rolled back the other direction when the other side gets the ball back tomorrow.

As a progressive myself, I hate Trump’s policies, and it’s clear to me that something needs to change. I’m talking big picture here, not just Democrats need to turn out and vote in 2020, that would be political football again, and we need to get away from that. I recognize too that conservatives felt that their values are deeply violated when Democrats win and control policy, so let’s find out why the two sides believe so strongly on opposite sides of the issues and talk about how to get us all at least closer to being on the same page.

Now that I have thoroughly cleared my throat, from what I’ve read and what makes sense to me, the biggest difference between conservatives and progressives is biological. Conservatives have bigger amygdalae (the part of the brain that detects danger) than progressives do. Consequently, whereas progressives like to seek out thrills and novelties, conservatives are more sensitive to potential danger.

So how can we come to a consensus about which side is right? How dangerous is the world really? What size amygdala is healthiest? And how can we help the side that is less healthy learn to adapt?

Maybe those aren’t the right questions or the right wording, but I think it’s at least a step in the right direction that nobody I know seems to be taking.

Had to stop reading at this point because of the high level of stupidity you were exhibiting

@strongbow and there's the mindless hate and cruelty we expect from conservatives.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@GoldenWorm lol... callin a liberal out for their retarded senseless crap is just cleaning up the riff raff from society, you look like you can spend time in a garbage disposal also🤭
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
@strongbow The thing I love about you internet tough guys is how you never pull this on me in person.
JP1119 · 36-40, M
@strongbow Did you ever stop to question why liberals believe differently from you? Or why you believe what you do? I want to start a different kind of discussion, and I’m sorry for offending your conservative sensibilities.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@GoldenWorm 😂... oh the irony in that stupid statement
@strongbow So called "liberals" have freedom of speech just like you guys do. For some reason though, you seem to think that everyone is supposed to agree with you guys, or they are a leftist crybaby if they disagree in even the slightest and most harmless way.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@latinbutterfly Where did i say you cant have freedom of speech?...all i was doing was pointing out this statement
First, another reason it’s such a travesty that Trump is president, aside from his bad policies, is that now all the news is about him.
, now if you cant find the stupidity in whats in that line, then thats on you too
@strongbow Exactly what I am talking about. I've observed your comments for a while, and you never allow someone to say something negative about your boy Trump without calling them out for it.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@latinbutterfly So you cant see the stupidity in that statement, no surprise, looks like im done here, have a nice day
@strongbow All I see is someone simply expressing their opinion, which you seem to have a huge problem with.
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
@strongbow " you're always megative"
"No I'm not and you're stupid"

Lol, point proven.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@latinbutterfly Let me spell it out for you...this quote
aside from his bad policies, is that now all the news is about him.
....now can you read that highlighted part? this moron is blaming Trump because the incessant liberal media and people like YOU wont stop crying and complaining about Trump, yet this idiot (and you and goldenworm) are blaming Trump.. that is the stupidest thing ive read on here in a long time...
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
@strongbow The media is covering up Trump's utter failure.
JP1119 · 36-40, M
@strongbow Do you deny that Trump says outrageous things on Twitter all the time? Even if you agree with it, can you not see how many people would find his policy of separating families at the border shocking? Does he not say and do shocking things all the time? Is the “liberal” media then supposed to just ignore all his shenanigans and pretend like it’s not news?

Why do you think your view of Trump is so different from mine? Roughly half the country sees things the way you do, and roughly the other half of the country thinks like me. Don’t you think my half is insanely crazy/stupid/morally bankrupt or at least very wrong? If so, don’t you think it’s a problem that roughly half the country thinks the other half is crazy/stupid/morally bankrupt? And it sure seems like those thoughts are reciprocated on the other side. And aren’t you extremely frustrated that every 6-8 years the Democrats win a bunch of elections and start implementing policies contrary to your values again?

So what I’m suggesting is that we take a look at what’s causing these differences with an eye toward breaking the cycle of futile political football.
@strongbow Hmmm, I thought you said you were done 🤭.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@latinbutterfly Oh they are never done on social media.
@Wol62 These Republicans are always trying to have the last word.
@strongbow By the way, you sir without a doubt are one of the meanest, most hate-filled Trump worshippers I've seen on this site. I know that not all of them are like you but you give them all a bad name. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
