People act like I’m so conservative for having a disgusted disdain towards polygamy
When I say it exploits off of the oppression of women for the man’s benefit
Since I’m so conservative I think the “pray and obey” movie highlights exactly what I’m talking about
Summary
Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey” tells the kind of saga one wants to forget immediately after hearing it. Warren Jeffs, the self-professed prophet of the FLDS, orchestrated countless marriages for his believers, while dangling the promise of eternal life in front of them. (When Jeffs' father Rulon died, leaving behind dozens of widows, Warren married some of them.) From birth to adulthood, his followers were instilled with fear of not following his latest message from God, which more or less focused on multiplying and a woman's submission. Everyone was to serve the community, and that included the multiple girls, some as young as 12, and women forced into polygamous "marriages." They were told to be subservient to their husbands and create large families. And because polygamy and child brides are illegal in America, Jeffs had to move around his people from secretive compounds in Utah and then Texas, tearing families apart when he kicked members out.
And I don’t know if anyone is familiar with natureboy but it is also a rising practice to manipulate the women into polygamous marriage by drugging them with mind altering drugs like dmt and acid and manipulate them once they are mentally vulnerable.
“Natureboy” had an entire cult of women living outside. whom he abused mentally and beat regularly. One woman escaped because he had the entire clan beat her. and told the story to police and the news. To which he was arrested and it was published. This happened in north Georgia. Nature boy also got multiple women pregnant and molested his children on camera
Is that sexy? Does that turn you on?
“People shouldn’t worry about other sexual relations as long as it was consensual”
There were plenty of points in time where all of this was considered consensual because these women were being manipulated as early as birth and the vulnerable women to drugs were not aware of what was actually taking place
I agree it is far less than ideal for either women or men. However if all the parties enter the relationship in the full knowledge of the relationship and are willing to stay in that relationship then that is kind of their choice.
@hippyjoe1955 natureboy used mind altering drugs to manipulate women into joining his sex cult the same drugs that were given to the nazis in ww2 at the time when they were participating in the holocaust
And children being born into polygamy don’t know any other way of life. So I disagree that they chose to stay in it
That is why I later said in my article people like to say “it’s their choice”
But those two situations were considered “consensual” by all parties involved…. Until it wasn’t
@DeluxedEdition I agree that there are lots of cults etc that coerce women into that kind of relationship. I am not a fan of any of them. I don't think polygamy is good for either men nor women but if people want that kind of relationship in all its variations then that is kind of up to them. I knew of one man who had two wives. One one town one in another. He would spend a week with one then a week with the other. Everyone knew about the other and there was no problem. Both women had children by him. For them it seemed to work.
There’s a difference between polygamy and polyamory. The only reason I even look at polygamy badly is because of the above reasons you’ve noted. To each their own but that’s just messed when they tell you god wants it.
