Ever heard of such an explanation?

He probably is living in his own personal issues and doesn’t want to pass any of it onto his kids and ultimately his wife to deal with it

I think he meant he didn’t want to put his wife thru childbirth.

With thousands of generations of evidence it seems clear that women are generally capable of pregnancy and childbirth. Certainly much more so than men.
