Live longer than what? How much younger do they need to be?
I find it interesting that the age gap does the opposite for women, whether older or younger.
I'm not sure the answer but I do know men who retire earlier and older people who go into nursing homes seem to deteriorate faster. It could be a mental thing. Perhaps the younger spouse gives them a reason to hold onto life.

@midnightrose That's very true. My uncle has lukemia, Parkinson's and early Alzheimer's but his mental state hasn't deteriorated to much in the past few years since it's started. Like you said, he has somthing in his life to keep his mind busy, my grandma has always been his best friend and she would check in on him until they eventually moved in together this year. He loves to build things so she tries to make sure there's a project for him, it must be hard with the Parkinson's but he doesn't give up, he knows his mind would leave him faster if he stopped trying.
