What have I done?

One of my friends cried about how she was being mistreated, abused and neglected by her husband. This happened few years ago and I encouraged her to get a divorce. I feel bad now for telling her what to do because I found out she was only after his money and she was finding reasons to leave. She married him only after knowing him for 3 months, they have 18 years gap, and he is a wealthy man. But he is also very careful about his spending and doesn't give her much cash since she has a career. So my friend felt cheated and she pushed his buttons till he got mad and then she only recorded the part of him being abusive to strengthen the case. I didn't know this back then and now I feel guilty.

Long story short, she is enjoying the allowances (court's order) and actively hunting for men. Now that her life is sorted, she is being that stuck up B that I've known in school 🙍🏻‍♀️
payback is a ***** and life is shuffling the cards

Don't blame yourself. Her plan was already in motion the moment she laid eyes on him. You didn't come up with the idea.

@eMortal Thank you. Just that I can't believe there is someone like her and she is a friend!

I hope you mean 'was a friend'.

In cases like this it's important to remember the legal maxim - audi alteram partem.

@Sharon It was recordings from CCTV. She played her cards so well, it's
disgusting. But definitely an eye opener for me. I should have listened to my husband and stay out of it. She married him for money and now divorcing for money. And sadly, the law supports women like her 🤷‍♀️

Hopefully you won't be so gullible next time. That's not a criticism of you. I can almost guarantee there will be a next time because that type of behaviour is so prevalent.

@Sharon As a human it is normal, especially when a friend comes crying etc. I thought I am already a half robot with me being expressionless to BS. and now this 😂

I've been in the same boat. Isn't it amazing that anyone would lie about being abused? It's a horrible feeling finding out the truth after trying to help someone.

@SW-User It does suck. Seeing her being so sneaky makes me sick.

Sounds like you were just trying to be a supportive friend.....

@SilkandLace2 Yea. I feel sorry for the guy. He picked up the wrong person and now he is paying the price.
