Welfare/Food Stamp Fraud

This is more of a rant than a question, but I would like to hear about your experiences. Below are just 2 of the examples I see or hear about on the regular.

1. I stood in line at the gas station watching the lady in front of me buy overpriced, chips, fountain drinks and candy bars with her food stamp card. Then she proceeded to pull out a wad of cash to pay for her 4 packs of Marlboro's and her $20 dollar scratch off.

2. Overhearing my wife's conversation with a cousin and I hear about the cousin's afternoon out with the her 6 kids. The went to Defy (a trampoline amusement park), had slushies and snacks, bought the required socks, and finished up with lunch at KFC. For dinner they dined on lobster tail and steak. You know, Surf and Turf on food stamps. This family lies to the government. They were never married and claim on paper to have separate residences so they qualify for over $1200 dollars a month in food stamps.

I work 2 jobs to pay the mortgage. Something has to be done to fix this system.

Do I report my cousin in laws for welfare fraud?

Of course not. Widespread fraud isn't a thing and anecdotes like these cannot be blown up to a national scale. The real question is why are you so bitter that people get to eat?

@RandomForest I don't believe I am bitter. Just feel that others cheating the system comes out of my pocket at the end of the day. Do you think folks should be able to by lobster tail and porterhouse on foodstamps?
@kyredhead I think that it's none of my business what they eat, as long as they can. These are not luxury foods.

And it doesn't come out of your pocket. From what you describe you are in the income bracket that gets more back in services than they pay in taxes. That's most Americans. So their food stamps aren't getting paid by you.

They are getting paid by me however, and I don't begrudge the needy their food. Perspective is important. Also facts.

@RandomForest Those are indeed luxury foods. No other way to describe them.

You have no idea what income bracket I am in so please do not speak on what you do not know.
@kyredhead They aren't luxury foods at all. And even if they were, it doesn't matter. It isn't your business what others eat. And yes, your tax bracket is very apparent as you envy the needy their food. 😂 It's a sad class of people who do that.
@kyredhead Have you ever looked at the pie chart graphs of the Federal Budget? What and how much gets spent here and there? Let me school you. There are two kinds of government spending...Mandatory and Discretionary. The portion of the federal budget that pays for welfare and food stamps is 1%...ONE PERCENT....of the Discretionary portion of the budget..and the Discretionary portion of the budget is only 39% of the entire budget.

So food stamp programs are "costing you" 1% of 39% of the total budget..........while military spending to insure we have a military that is larger than the next 10 highest spending counties on the globe COMBINED---is 62% of every dollar spent.

The Republican mantra of "if we just take food out of the mouths of the hungry we could balance the budget".........is so much bullshit it's hard to imagine that anyone with over a first grade education still believes that.

@RandomForest Lets be honest here. You know nothing about me. And your view of the world must be skewed by your tax bracket.

Please don't attempt to belittle me...its quite unbecoming of you.

@anythingoes477 If it costs me $1 dollar to feed someone capable of feeding themselves, that's a dollar to much.

Keep your "schooling" to yourself. I already have a bachelor's degree.
@anythingoes477 Sobering facts, falling on deaf ears it seems.
@kyredhead I've always thought the world has a million assholes in it. Reading how you feel about the less forunate than you means I am wrong. There's a million and one assholes out there.

@anythingoes477 Ha, guess your reading skills need polished. These folks are not in need. They have plenty of money to go to amusement parks, buy cigs and lotto, but why waist their money on food when the government will pay?
