Have you ever been the subject of a malicious rumor? Did it bother you?

One of my "friends" is telling anyone who'll listen that I'm having an affair with a married man. She's denied it, but I know she's told people that (false) story. Really pissing me off!

Yes. And yes it did. A former friend at my former job (I retired) told a major lie about me to my former co-workers. It stunned and upset me. But then it occurred to me that no one who knew me would ever believe it because the lie is so obviously outrageous. It still bothers me because I have no idea why she would do this.
