If you're extremely devout I can't see how it can work, especially if both partners seriously think the other one is destined for hell as a non-believer. How can you love someone who you think is damned because they have a different faith? If it doesn't bother you, then you can't be devout enough, and so religion itself and your faith become irrelevant to the relationship.
