A man should be the primary income holder in a marriage.

A friend of mine said I was wrong but I stand by my statement. What do you'll think?

Why? Why should a man necessarily earn more? Why should men not be allowed to take care of the kids?

@basilfawlty89 Not saying the women stays at home either: however the concept of "house husband" does not appeal to me
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@solitaire and that's you. And if that works for you, cool. But it's not for you to decide what other people do. The idea of women staying at home and the man being the breadwinner literally just comes from the industrial revolution and the influence of the factory system. Historically men and women both worked inside the household.

@basilfawlty89 Yeah ...

@solitaire Somewhere those two ideas don't meet together. Or I guess everyone should just work work work. No time for family?

@basilfawlty89 If it was only rooted that late in history.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@SW-User it is largely. I'm not saying the idea of the man being the head of the house, that's much older, but during the cottage production era, men and women worked.
@solitaire If a woman has greater earning potential than her husband, it makes sense for her to be the breadwinner. If they have children, he can be a full-time, stay-at-home dad.

@basilfawlty89 men cant breastfeed.
@Penny So? The mother can express milk before going to work.
Penny · 46-50, F
@NortiusMaximus do you have any idea how hard it is to express milk? i mean, i know most men are lazy af, but really, anything to shirk responsibility although trust me taking care of babies is no easy feat

@NortiusMaximus Express?
Caroline259 · 56-60, F
@Penny Yes, I did it so I could return to work while my husband was a stay at home father. I earned more than he so the alternative was to take a significant drop in our living standards. Neither of us wanted that. He would agree that taking care of babies is no easy feat but he did it. What's more, I was able to come home to find the housework done and dinner nearly ready. :)

@Penny as others have pointed out milk can be stored. Furthermore, if not available, there is formula. My mum didn't produce breast milk. Which might explain why I like boobs.
@SW-User Expressing milk is where a woman milks herself so the milk can be stored and fed to the baby later.
