If you're an atheist can being married still be as important to you , rather than just living with?

I'm not a church goer or devout Christian but marriage still feels important to me..

@SoulAsylum - I also will never marry but I wouldn't go as far as saying one particular person always ends up better or worse. Thats like saying a woman will always end up raising the kids on her own while the guy is free to start a new life. Thats my experience as a kid, but I understand it's not always the case.
