Sometimes it doesn't have to be weird for them be a little off. Just find a girl who you share a hobby with and chat about that. That usually works if you haven't already tried

You gotta be aloof, and never, EVER, make any move.
Ask her about herself and find out what she likes to talk about. And whatever you do, don't come off clingy or needy. Girls like when they feel like you're interested in actually getting to know them. Crazy, I know.
