Gender roles! thats the real problem in your situation. We are told that as girls, we are not supposed to admit our feelings. similarly boys are supposed to be blatant about their feelings which is not always true!
If it wasnt these supposed behaviors, it would be easy for you to just ask him whats on his mind and he would tell you what is it all about
