My girlfriend thinks she's a great actress but isn't, should I tell her?

She's done plays and she's just not very good, but she's convinced herself she is. Some people have already told her but she's in denial about it, I haven't had the heart to tell her myself.

keep it to yourself. she'll figure it out on her own faster if you don't tell her, and she'd be hurt by your judgement in the meantime if you did. besides, who's it hurting for her to try?
pentacorn · F
[@733829,Billybob2] well... i'm sure life will check her at some point, but i assure you, you don't want to be the bad guy.

[@664411,pentacorn] I don't think I could be anyway, she wears these beautiful dresses during rehearsals that make me weak in the knees.

[@733829,Billybob2] lucky you. :)

Encourage her instead of being defeating. She'll remember you were against encouragement forever. She's young, she's got her whole life to become good and enjoy something she loves whether she becomes good at it or not. Discourage her and it's very possible the resentment she'll feel, she'll carry in her forever. If she enjoys it it doesn't matter if she ever gets good at it

Hell, no. Get her to pretend she's a cheerleader cumslut.
plungesponge · 36-40, M
Of course not. You should support her until she makes it into a notable production and gets slaughtered in the reviews. That's what a gentleman would do.
plungesponge · 36-40, M
Right, either that or she'll toss out all former parts of her life, you included. Probably about 50/50 chance of that happening, or maybe you can both create a wonderful new reality like these people [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC8i0gt5m-Y]
Billybob2 · 22-25, M
[@20312,plungesponge] that makes me feel so much better....
plungesponge · 36-40, M
Hey 50/50 ain't bad, it's the same as the divorce rate lol
Why ? So she’d give it up or so she’d try and improve ? What would you hope to accomplish by telling her ?🤔
Billybob2 · 22-25, M
[@328496,bijouxbroussard] I thought it might be easier, she's getting parts because I'm helping her get them.

Just let her be. Life will find a way to break it to her someday if she really does suck at acting.
lovelywarpedlemon · 26-30, F
Maybe she'll get better with practice and classes. You don't sound very supportive of her. Rather than criticize her why not pay for an acting class for her?
lovelywarpedlemon · 26-30, F
[@733829,Billybob2] are you the only one with this opinion of her? what do her friends/family think?
Billybob2 · 22-25, M
[@417823,lovelywarpedlemon] they think she isn't good as well
lovelywarpedlemon · 26-30, F
[@733829,Billybob2] Well it doesn't really matter. All that matters is that acting is what makes your gf happy. And that you support her in whatever she does, as long as it makes her happy.
User41 · 31-35, M
I would 🤷🏻‍♂️
[@646421,User41] Yeah, but you’re mean. 😏
User41 · 31-35, M
Well then it’s really good that your not the one in charge of best answer for this one!

Why do you need to tell her?
Dragonfly · 31-35, M
[@733829,Billybob2] It might hurt more coming from you, as she values your opinion more. I would just let her continue doing what makes her happy.
Billybob2 · 22-25, M
[@1017273,Dragonfly] she has another job, I guess I could just leave wondering why she never made it to the big time.
Dragonfly · 31-35, M
[@733829,Billybob2] Maybe she will make it big. Acting is a skill that can be improved upon.
Dan193 · 26-30, M
no, unless she spends all her savings on it
Billybob2 · 22-25, M
[@14565,Dan193] she thinks she'll be good enough for movies someday
Dan193 · 26-30, M
[@733829,Billybob2] well she's practicing, so maybe if you don't completely demoralize her, maybe she'll reach her dream in like 20 years. There are older actors that play mid 20's-30's characters all the time.
jimjim1969 · 70-79, M
Its nice to fantasize, let her find out her self

Dunning-Kruger Effect. Look it up.
