Suck or suckle?

I'm new to the abf/anr scene and find the terminology confusing.
I used to think 'suckle' meant to offer a breast or feed someone, so a mother suckles an infant. While on the other side the infant or other recipient sucks from the breast.

But reading posts here and elsewhere many people use suckle for either side which can get confusing. Equally I'm not sure now what it means to be suckled.

Is this because people don't like the word 'suck' in this context so suckle is a more acceptable alternative?

Then there's to nurse and to be nursed. At least that generally means to provide and to receive the breast/milk respectively, but even that is inconsistent at times.

Am I the only one who is unclear? Is there any advice?

@Richard65 Hmm that seems to just confirm the confusion and maybe it was always ambiguous. I guess when you're talking about a mother and a baby everyone knows who's doing what but when it's two adults it can get difficult.

I hadn't thought about suckle/suck implying milk/dry. Or that to nurse means to take milk as well as to offer it.

@SW-User it's probably incorrect to use the terms interchangeably, but most adults do it, especially on here. I think it's because the mother is the dominant figure when breastfeeding a baby, the baby is non verbal so it just takes the milk offered to it, but with two adults involved, perhaps the woman can suckle the man (or other woman) but the man can actually verbally request to suckle her. It's a two-way verbal communication with two adults.

I have always taken it to mean that suck refers to pleasurable events. Suckling refers to providing nourishment or receiving nourishment

It seems same but there is a subtle difference.
Suckle is gentler, and it’s like what baby does to drink milk. Kind of pressure effect.
Sucking is like you sucking on hard candy, a steady sucking action.

@Richard65 it’s become quite a popular topic on SW in recent months, before that it was more like a minor kink, or at least it seemed that way to me.

@SW-User yes, I agree, I was surprised myself by the amount of interest on here about it, it needs it's own specialist thread where devotees can discuss it. What's drawn you to the subject? Anything in particular?

That’s a suckler of a question ! 🤔
