October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

For everyone who endured a hellish homelife and managed to escape, congratulations.

And for everyone who is still struggling, you have my heartfelt wishes for finding the freedom you deserve someday.

It's impoertant to realise that physical violence is not the only, and possibly not the largest, form of domestic cruelty, by one spouse against the other, parents against children, even children against parents.

This is why UK law now includes the offence of Coercive and Controlling Behaviour - far more social, mental and financial bullying than physical assault.

@ArishMell

I know someone in prison for sexually abusing his children.

When I went to his sentencing hearing, his victims spoke about his emotional abuse far more than the sexual abuse. The emotional abuse went on for years and tainted the entire atmosphere of the home.

I am amazed at how those young people have managed to cope and move on with their lives.
