Quote on intimacy

Intimacy in this world is about so much more than the physical.

It is about simply being.

Being beside another soul and feeling the softness of safety.

Being able to exhale.

Being able to speak without fear.

Being able to sit in silence and still feel deeply connected.

It is the beautiful understanding that the person beside us has their own wants, needs, desires, dreams, thoughts and ways of seeing this world.

And love does not ask us to take ownership of any of them.

Love honours them.

The physical can be a beautiful expression of intimacy, but it is only one small part of a much bigger picture.

Real intimacy lives in the quiet places.

In the cup of tea made with love.

In the hand gently reaching for yours.

In the person who notices your tired eyes and does not ask you to explain them.

In the softness of being able to say, I am not quite myself today, and knowing you are still safe there.

It is being listened to without being fixed.

Being held without being rescued.

Being heard without being judged.

Being loved without being instructed on how to live, how to think, how to feel or who to become.

There is something almost angelic about a love that gives us room to unfold.

A love that inspires.

A love that encourages.

A love that whispers, keep going, I believe in you.

Beautiful love does not clip our wings.

It reminds us that we have them.

It celebrates our dreams.

It encourages our growth.

It does not become threatened by our becoming.

It stands beside us as we rise.

It feels joy when we find more of ourselves.

It wants to see our light grow brighter.

And there is something profoundly intimate about being loved by someone who does not need us to remain the same in order to feel secure.

Someone who understands that two people can continue becoming individually and still walk beautifully together.

Love can be the gentle garden where both souls are allowed to grow.

Where one flower does not have to become smaller for the other to bloom.

Where there is room for sunlight.

Room for change.

Room for dreams.

Room for individuality.

Room for two souls to keep discovering who they are.

And love does not always need an answer.

Sometimes love is simply presence.

Sometimes it is sitting beside someone while the world feels heavy and saying nothing at all.

Sometimes it is making the tea.

Opening the curtains.

Holding a hand.

Listening to the same story again because their heart still needs somewhere to place it.

Sometimes love is laughter in the kitchen.

Bare feet on the floor.

A gentle touch on the shoulder.

A look across the room.

A quiet, beautiful knowing that says,

You do not have to perform here.

You can simply be.

In this crazy, rushing world of appointments, obligations, noise and endless busyness, perhaps one of the greatest forms of intimacy is coming back to the here and now.

Putting everything else down for a moment.

Looking at the person beside us.

Really looking.

Listening.

Noticing.

Encouraging.

Inspiring.

Celebrating.

Holding space.

Being curious about the soul we love, even after years of knowing them.

Because no human being is ever completely finished.

We are all still unfolding.

Still learning.

Still dreaming.

Still becoming.

And beautiful love gives us room for all of it.

Love does not dominate.

Love does not belittle.

Love does not punish vulnerability.

Love does not make us frightened to speak.

Love does not demand that we shrink so someone else can feel larger.

Love is never cruel.

Love should feel like warmth.

Like safety.

Like gentleness.

Like respect.

Like encouragement.

Like the freedom to breathe deeply while still being beautifully connected to another human being.

Perhaps that is intimacy at its most beautiful.

Two souls choosing one another without trying to own one another.

Two hearts walking side by side without trying to reshape each other.

Holding space through the difficult days.

Celebrating the beautiful ones.

Encouraging dreams.

Inspiring growth.

Offering tenderness.

And reminding one another, again and again, that love should never be the place where we disappear.

It should be one of the places where we feel safe enough to blossom.

Safe enough to stretch our wings.

Safe enough to become.

Safe enough to be completely, beautifully ourselves.

To be seen.

To be heard.

To be encouraged.

To be inspired.

To be respected.

To be cherished.

And above all, to know that within the arms of genuine love, our soul is still free.
