Why haven't you married your long-time partner?

Because we're happy. We both moved to small, mountain village, live about 100 yards apart, see each other every day, co-parent a dog and yet we maintain our own independence. Going on about 15 years and have had probably one real argument in that time.

Don't forget that in the eyes of the law marriage is a BUSINESS CONTRACT. Nothing more or less. It has nothing to do with the relationship outside of tax breaks. You don't have to be legally married to have a long-term, committed relationship.

I was with woman for 8 years, living together most of that time, and then we got married.Two years later we were done. It can change things even if you don't want things to change.
